Service to your community is now possible through a variety of meaningful opportunities at the Ridgewood Library. Important volunteer commitments are developing in many departments including Welcome Desk, Genealogy, Literacy, Children's, Book Preservation, Administration, and Circulation. Current volunteers enjoy the satisfaction of contributing their time and talent, making new friends, and learning new skills through training. Volunteers must be able to work independently. Please commit three hours per week for a period of at least six months.

Minimum Requirements for Ridgewood Library Volunteers

Ability to:

1. Understand and communicate clearly.
2. Follow direction.
3. Satisfactorily meet the requirements of the assignment.
4. Respond promptly and appropriately to library patron requests, making patron requirements a priority.
5. Respond effectively in an emergency and offer assistance as necessary.
6. Project a positive outlook and a willingness to help.
7. Work independently with minimal supervision.
8. Honor your commitment & schedule.
9. Dress neatly & be well-groomed as is appropriate for work in a public library.

Young Adult Volunteer Opportunities
Contact: Gina Mitgang, Children's Department
Children's Department Read to preschool children. Help prepare crafts. Summer reading club, special projects. Photocopying and Clerical Tasks.
Circulation Department
Shelve books. Organize book carts. Locate library materials for loan requests.
Reference Department Assist teaching computer classes. Public Computer signups and assistance.. Need good interpersonal and strong PC skills.

Adult Volunteer Opportunities
Contact: Nancy Blasberg, Administration Office
Administration Scrapbook project, organizing records, bookkeeping projects. Photocopying and Clerical tasks.
Circulation Department
Shelve books, phone patrons for reserve books.
Reference Department Assist teaching computer classes. Public Computer signups and assistance.. Need good interpersonal and strong PC skills.
